Peregrinations is hull #7 of the Nordhavn 63 line. The owners’ abrupt change of plans has resulted in her coming onto the market with very low hours, but diligent maintenance. She is in very clean condition, and with her overall equipment specification, including two generators, two watermakers, safety equipment, diesel heat, extensive electronics, cold storage capacity, and the proven Nordhavn standard specifications, she is ready for world cruising, or simply spending days hanging out in a beautiful locale, in self-sufficient fashion. Enter into the salon from the cockpit through the aft salon Dutch door. To starboard is a crescent shaped settee with cushions upholstered in “Almond” Ultra-leather. The cabin sole is African cherry and ebony.
To port is a custom pull-out sofa upholstered in matching leather, providing for “over-flow” guest accommodation.
Forward of the salon, the spacious galley communicates conveniently with the lounging and entertainment area of the salon. The galley has all of the accouterments a cook needs for dining and entertaining onboard.
Just to starboard of the galley is the hallway leading to master and guest staterooms forward. Outboard to starboard are the stairs leading down to the utility and engine rooms. Also to starboard, at the forward end of the settee, are the steps up to the pilothouse.
Light floods into the salon and galley area through three large windows on port and starboard sides of the cabin. All windows are installed with hi-tensile adhesive for a permanent water-tight seal, and easy rinse-down maintenance.
The guest and the master staterooms have similar accommodations. The forward stateroom with its centerline bed and abundant storage will make your guests feel privileged to be aboard.
Up in the pilothouse, there is also sleeping accommodation in the “captain’s cabin”. The head there serves that cabin, or as a day head, particularly convenient on overnight passages. The instrument console displays information beautifully, from an array of high quality electronics. There is one Stidd helm chair with room for another to be installed.
INTERIOR - GENERAL
Décor and Interior Comfort
Long, transoceanic voyages would not be practical if the interior is not comfortable underway. Sound attenuation is one significant element of comfort underway. The engine room is well insulated, including the engine room doors. In the living spaces there are insulated bulkheads and rubber gasketed interior doors. The salon sole is four inches thick and cored with Nida Core. Below it are two more inches for foam engine room insulation with a perforated plate layer covering it.
To starboard is a long crescent shaped settee with a cherry three-section dinette table. The center section will slide out for easier access to the settee for cocktail and coffee use. The table pedestals are height adjustable for comfort.
The settee is upholstered in “Almond” Ultra-leather and has a comfortable knee roll seat cushion and waterfall seat back. There is a considerable amount of storage beneath the settee and behind the settee back rest.
The TV is mounted aft and near centerline creating an easy viewing angle for all in the salon, including the galley crew, and anyone seated on the pull-out sofa to port. This sofa provides ideal guest overflow sleeping space.
Also to port is a variety of organized storage space in lockers and book shelves aft and forward of the sofa respectively.
Moving forward in the salon to the aft face of the galley, the counter top has been terraced and extended to create a convenient eating space.
There are air-conditioning soffits above the port and starboard windows for broad dispersion of cool or warm air. The soffits join valences for the window coverings below.
For more dedicated heat, there are ducts for the diesel heat system which exhaust the warm air lower in the space.
Peregrinations has roman shades mounted in the valances that are very effective for reducing UV and heat loading in the interior and also provide some insulation for cooler conditions outside.
Peregrinations has one of the most well equipped galleys of any Nordhavn, even larger models. She has two Sub-Zero 700 refrigerators each with two freezer drawers with icemakers. Other appliances include a GE convection microwave, GE gas cooktop, GE electric oven, GE dishwasher and GE trash compactor. In addition to the standard complement of storage space, the owners had a large custom locker with tambour doors built into the forward section of the galley. Granite counter tops provide plenty of work space, and includes an extended section for quick meals. There is a deep, double bowl stainless steel sink under-mounted in the counter, and a tall Grohe faucet to make the pasta or crab pot easier to clean.
There are overhead lockers above the main galley counter. The space is accessible fore and aft through wood and glass shoji style locker doors the lockers themselves are internally lit for easy access and ambiance.
The hallway provides easy access fore and aft to the staterooms and pantry without passing through any other cabins.
The main electrical distribution panel is in the hallway just forward of the salon. Further forward and to starboard is a large pantry with convenient shelf storage.
Further forward and to port is the entrance to the mid-cabin. Further forward to starboard is the guest head. A door just before the head encloses the guest head in the hallway into the space of the forward (guest) stateroom, which is all the way forward in the hallway.
Mid (Master) Stateroom
With a large, 60x77” bed with Sleep-Number mattress, lots of organized storage, and head ensuite it serves very well as the master cabin. There are hanging lockers and lots of drawer space, including night stands fore and aft of the head of the bed.
There are two large rectangular opening port lights in the alcove above the head of the bed, and a large hatch overhead for light and ventilation. Ports and hatches are equipped with insect screens. Roman shades in the alcove and a shade on the deck hatch block out the light for a relaxing sleeping environment even during the summer nights in Alaska.
An air-conditioning soffit over the alcove and heat registers down low in the bed pedestal provide the desired climate control.
The master head is aft in the master cabin. It is comfortably sized, and has a shower stall, granite topped vanity, and Tecma head.
Forward (Guest) Stateroom
The forward stateroom is one that you would be proud to designate for your guests. It features a centerline bed (58”x76”), lots of organized storage space in 18 drawers and several lockers, five opening portlights and three deck hatches. All ports and hatches are fitted with insect screens.
There is a utility space below the sole of the forward stateroom. It provides easy access to the standard Torrid water heater, Ever-hot (hydronic system) water heater, the Village Marine watermaker, and bow thruster, among other plumbing components. There is sufficient space for storage of additional items too.
Just outboard of the entrance to the hallway are the steps leading up to the pilothouse. In addition to serving as the operations center of the boat, the pilothouse also becomes the gathering place for the crew on long passages. It’s comfortable and functional and also features a “captain’s cabin” for off-watch crew or guests. There is a double bed, and a head ensuite to the pilothouse, which also becomes very convenient for the operating crew, with its Stidd helm chair, electronics complement, settee and dinette, sleeping space and head it is its own self-contained cabin.
The windscreens are reverse-raked for glare reduction, and the overhead panel fabric is darker than the rest of them in the interior for further glare reduction. The windscreen wipers are also fitted with fresh water washers.
One of the attractions of the Nordhavn 63 layout is that the view from the pilothouse is expansive, overlooking the foredeck and much of the length of the boat. Just outside the pilothouse to starboard is the wing control station, from which there is a view fully fore and aft. Since docking to starboard is most desirable, the wing station is the perfect vantage point, also making it easy to communicate with the crew stepping off onto the dock and handling lines, making it especially easy for a couple to handle the Nordhavn 63.
Peregrinations’ electronics complement is an example of the “best of breed” approach. All of the components have been selected for their reliability and for accumulated experience with each manufacturer’s record of service and field support. The electronic components were installed by Emerald Harbor Marine in Seattle, who have done numerous installations and performed extensive service on Nordhavns.
The Electronics Inventory:
To starboard of the galley, steps lead down to the utility room. There are several features included: the washer and dryer are there, along with a freezer. There is also a lot of organized storage space in seven drawers and some locker and shelf space. The owners also opted to include one fixed berth and one pipe berth for additional sleeping space. A granite topped vanity is also installed there, a great place to wash hands following engine room tasks, and before returning to the main deck.
The Nordhavn 63’s engine room is designed for access to all of the crucial maintenance points. In its forward section the headroom is full standing. There are stainless steel guard rails around the main engine and the fuel supply tank. Stabilizer actuators are located forward in the port and starboard alcoves.
There are easily readable sight gauges on the port and starboard engine room (main) fuel tanks as well as the supply tank, all of which are part of the renowned Nordhavn Yachts gravity feed fuel system:
The main engine duplex Racor filters, and the transfer system Racor filter are easily accessed in the alley to starboard of the main engine. Racor Duplex filters are fitted with drain valves.
The AC Electrical System
The AC electrical is 240-volts 60hz and 120-volts 60hz. The AC 240-volt power source can be from shore power connection or generator output. 120-volt output can be from the 30-amp shorepower connection on the foredeck, 240-volt shorepower connection through the balancing transformer, or from inverter output.
The DC Electrical System
The DC electrical system is 24-volts, except for one 12-volt buss in the pilothouse sub-panel for some NavCom equipment only operating at that voltage. The 12-volt buss is serviced by a 24-12-volt converter located in the pilothouse.
