With her timeless lines this elegant girl could pass for a 2020 model pulling up to any dock. The ride will stay unsurpassed. She’ll ride side by side with the Garlington 44. And her construction is very solid. This boat is like blending the best of Florida and Carolina boats into one sleek package. While she is ready to fish right now, there is opportunity to decorate and modernize for someone that likes to put their own custom touch to things.
The central salon area has a lounge that is also a dinette and a bunk when the table is lowered. The space is open and has great potential for modernization with some new materials. There are storage spaces in the lounge and starboard cabinetry.
The galley has ample countertop space for making meals and storing goods for day trips or weeks away. All the appliances are in good working order, the microwave and cooktop are newer but you may desire to update the refrigerator. There is storage below and above that can be customized for specific utensils and cookware.
The V-Berth forward has good width and legroom. A storage shelf above and large storage inside. There is a TV in the bulkhead (good 'ol box style), I suggest a replacement flat screen unless you are into novelties. A fresh new bedspread and pillows will make this room even better.
The deck layout has a raised bridge deck with twin captain’s helms chairs to port, a short L-Lounge behind them on the port and a long L-Lounge to starboard. The lounges have interior storage. The bridge deck is air conditioned within a new hard enclosure.
The Cockpit is large for a 44 and ready for any style of fishing you wish. She has a large transom fishbox, twin tackle stations and side lockers under the coaming.
The electronics are all functional with twin Furuno machines. They are a mix of dated and modern, but there is plenty of space for a modern flat screen setup.
The main panel is split 120/240 VAC and 12VDC.
This boat is hardwired and does not have any of the issues that were common during its build era for exploring relayed sub-panel systems.
1998 Caterpillar 3196s have a reputation for solid reliable service.
The 3196B is an inline, six-cylinder, four-stroke engine. The total piston displacement is 12 liters, (732 CI). The total bore and stroke is 5.1 by 5.9 inches, or 130 mm by 150 mm. Maximum horsepower output is 660 at 2,300 rpm Max torque output is 2,165 foot pounds at 1,600 rpm.
This is a boat I’m particularly proud of. In 1998 when the drawings began Applied Concepts was pioneering the 3D design process against the tide of traditionalism. This boat was the first generation of 3D modeled, CNC’d jigs for her construction. The young and progressive builder, Victor Hudson, was set on making a name for himself with a boat that was ahead of its time and as tough as nails.
Frankly put, most boats designed today don’t have a hull bottom any better than this special express.
She will provide the next owner with an exceptional ride especially for her size.
